Join sf|noir on Saturday March 5, 2016 as we continue our partnership with JCCSF to bring you the Giants of Jazz on Film series
Hip hop is the music of today’s youth. In the 1930s, however, it was the big bands and swing! From Harlem and the Paramount Theatre in New York City, to the Palomar Ballroom and the Castro Theatre on the West Coast, big band sounds reigned supreme. We invite you to revisit the sounds of the big bands, both classic and modern, with the music of Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Quincy Jones and more!
“Mark Cantor has one of the very best collections of jazz films in the world. Mark is an essential resource to anyone making a film about jazz.”
– Ken Burns
