Chef Christina "La La" Harrison

Christina Harrison, also known as Chef La La is the Sous Chef at Flora Restaurant in Oakland, California where she has been for the past 3 years. La La's culinary interest was piqued when she was exposed to farm to table cooking by her best friend's mother Patty Curtain. Patty is a food illustrator who has worked with Alice Waters and with the renowned Chez Panisse restaurant.
After high school, La La decided to enter into the culinary program at Laney College. She quickly came to realize that preparing good food for others was not only nourishing to them, but very rewarding to her. She also found that cooking was a stress reliever. While spending time working at several East Bay restaurants, including Angela's Bistro, Brown Sugar Kitchen and Lake Chalet she fell in love with the art of cooking. As she refined her cooking skills, her appreciation for culinary arts grew and she earned the opportunity to cook at Flora. Here she was able to study and work under the tutelage of well-known Executive Chef Rico Rivera and Chef Yoni Levy. Working with these two talented chefs made every day a learning experience.
At the end of 2012, La La began prepping brunch where she developed a passion for preparing breakfast dishes. Rico helped La La focus on the style of food, how to run a successful service, how to lead a team and how to make delicious gravy biscuits hollandaise and other brunch specialties. She also began to expand her thinking and create her own dishes and specialties including her delicious Shrimp and Grits.
"Nothing makes me happier than to see the reaction of someone eating and enjoying a meal that I've prepared - it gives me a feeling that I can't explain."
