Shrimp & Grits Taste-Off at MoAD to Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of sf|noir!
The 10th Anniversary celebration for sf|noir was a great success thanks to the top-notch restaurants and chefs, award-winning wineries and the invaluable loyalty of our supporters who came to enjoy themselves at the Shrimp & Grits Taste-Off at the Museum of the African Diaspora last month. On February 17, over 300 people joined us for our first fundraiser and ate mouth-watering food created by Chef David Lawrence from 1300 on Fillmore, Chef Dean Dupuis from Pican in Oakland, Chef Michele Wilson from Gussie’s Chicken & Waffles, Chef Robert Dorsey III from Blue Oak Cafe, Chef Jay Foster from Farmer Brown, Chef Michael Law from The Front Porch and dessert provided by PieTisserie. Local vintners Indigené Cellars, Papapietro Perry Winery, Andrew Lane Wines, and Quady Wines also contributed to our night of fun and fundraising.
sf|noir recognizes the culinary arts as a way to create a space free from cultural and social barriers. For centuries sharing food and meals has been a way of linking cultures and putting aside the differences created by skin color, language and any other factors people use to define and separate us as a people. The success of our event speaks to a deeper and richer part of all humans: their need for connection and community. Our differences can be a source of bonding, that ultimately help us realize the bevy of similarities between us all.
After 10 years of celebrating art that unites us, we seek to create a stronger sense of community going forward. In our work to preserve and represent the abundance of Black art and expression, sf|noir will stay loyal to our mission to be a connector of cultures by continuing to bring inclusive events to the Bay Area.
