“I am America. I am the part you won't recognize. But get used to me. Black, confident, cocky; my name, not yours; my religion, not yours; my goals, my own; get used to me.”
- Muhammed Ali
10 Years In Review: In Defense of Food - A Spoken Word Affair
The sf|noir Wine & Food Event premiered in February 2010, a 5 day tour-de-force of culinary explorations in African American cuisine and a showcase of wines from African American vintners, Black-owned South African wineries as well as many other top wineries from Napa and Sonoma Counties.
A memorable evening of the week was In Defense of Food: A Spoken Word Affair. If you were there, we know you’ll agree. You can read a review from that night by Leah Binkovitz of Slow Food San Francisco here. Below is a clip of Josh Healy’s piece, “Consistency,” which further expanded on the idea of culture and how food helps us define our culture and how powerful an act of “breaking bread” can be between us.
