“In search of my mother's garden, I found my own.”

Overview
sf|noir fosters positive relationships with other presenters, schools, diverse communities, non-profits and a broad range of institutions and individuals involved in supporting African American art forms and cultural contributions. Because artists and their creative expressions often are tied to their experiences and struggles, sf|noir seeks to present in a context that is both informed and relevant. In this regard the organization finds it appropriate to support dialog and dissemination of information that can help educate and deepen the understanding and appreciation of whatever art form is presented be it visual, spoken, written, composed, acted, danced or a combination of many.
sf|noir‘s signature event, The San Francisco Black History Month Celebration is presented every February and consists of a series of multi-disciplinary public and educational events, exhibits and performances based on the thematic programming. We create a forum for a diverse collection of artists and performers to showcase their work and express themselves on our stages. It is our ongoing goal to support local San Francisco and Bay Area artists both those with a long track record as well as artists who are just emerging and deserving greater exposure. It is our goal in time, to commission work as well as provide residencies and internships. We are also committed to bringing to San Francisco exceptional artists and performers from outside the region as we provide a permanent vehicle for artistic expression and provide venues to these artists and programming that keeps our audiences at the cutting edge.
